how to revise Quran hifz

It is narrated from Aisha R.A that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“The one who recites the Quran and learns it by heart will be with the noble righteous scribes (in heaven) and the one who exerts himself to learn Quran by heart and recites it with great difficulty will have a double reward.”

Being a Hafiz is a great virtue, and people believe that only those selected by ALLAH think about how to memorize Quran or how to revise Quran hifz? And become a Hafiz. There are many benefits for a hafiz in Islam, and ALLAH SWT will shower His countless blessings on him in this world and the afterworld as well.

As prophet Muhammad SAWW said:

The only reason for doing Quran Hifz must be pleasing ALLAH SWT and teaching Quran to others only for the sake of ALLAH. Memorizing Quran is the best thing a Muslim can imagine for himself but forgetting it after is definitely not what we look forward to. I remember once my hafiz friend could not recall a verse while reciting Qir’rat, and he felt embarrassed at that moment. It made him think of dedicating more time to Quran revision and recitation. If you are wondering how to revise Quran hifz or make it stronger, you’re at the right place. Here in this article, you will find the answers to all your Quran hifz related questions and doubts.

Here’s How You Can Make Your Hifz Better!

For revising your Hifz, you have to be completely sincere and truthful with yourself because only you know which Surah needs more time and effort.

Having a Quran revision plan can be the first step towards rememorizing Quran in a way never to forget again.

Quran Revision Plan

Here, we have collected some Quran revision plans, each suitable for different categories of huffadh. You can also make one or more of them a part of your routine or start using the Quran Memorization Planner to start revising today!

1.    Quran revision timetable:

Prepare a Quran revision timetable in accordance with the five Salahs and look at it before offering Salah. Design the schedule as per your convenience and the need for revision of a Surah. Make sure to recite a different Surah in each rakah of the Salah to revisit all of them. By the Quran revision timetable method, you can quickly revise many surahs in a day.

2.    Revise according to surahs:

Revise two or at least one Surah a day if you are very busy. Revise and recite two or more Surahs on weekends or any holiday. Keep a balance with Surahs and pair them according to their lengths. For example, pair a lengthy Surah with a short Surah, and don’t pair two long Surahs together. This way, you will not have a lot of burden on yourself.

3.    Set a time duration:

Decide on a time duration for your Quran hifz revision and revise your hifz in that time. For example, pull out 30 to 40 minutes in the morning and the same in the night for Quran hifz revision and strictly follow the time duration to revise your Quran hifz.

4.    By Juz:

Revising Quran by Juz is the most popular and easiest way of Quran revision. Many people follow the practice of revising 3 Juz a day. They revise first Para after Fajr Salah, second after Asr Salah, and third after Isha’a Salah. This way, they complete their Quran revision in just 10 days. But if you are busy and cannot follow this practice, try revising two Juz a day and perform your Quran revision in 15 days.

You can follow any of the above Quran revision plans regarding how to revise Quran hifz according to your time availability.

When you’ve memorized a certain Juz/part of the Quran or even half of a Juz, make a practice of reading a particular number of pages or “Rukku” daily only from the memorized Juz. A straightforward approach can be revising meanwhile learning the next part. If you have memorized a Juz, revisit 4 pages a day while still learning more parts of the Quran. Here are a few tips to get back on track.

  • First, read the entire Quran once to find out the forgotten Juz or verses. When you know which parts you have forgotten or in which you are weak, you can quickly start revising it. Now add another Juz and revise 2 then 3 Juz daily and keep on adding until you reach 5 Juz a day. It initially seems a lot, but if you progress gradually, you will find it easy to revise 5 Juz a day, one after each Salah.
  • Try listening to Quran recitation when you are busy and cannot recite it yourself. For example, during cooking or doing chores, driving, and while trying to sleep. This way, you can make your Quran hifz even stronger.
  • Recite already memorized Quran whenever you get a little time during day hours to make your hifz stronger. Such as revising a few pages of your memorized Juz during driving to work or after Salah.
